Strategic Partnership Manager

The National Complete Streets Coalition seeks an experienced candidate to manage our relationships with Coalition partners, advance our federal policy goals, and oversee our new project to help measure the effectiveness of Complete Streets policy implementation. This is a tremendous opportunity that features a great deal of responsibility, direct collaboration with a diverse national organizations, and valuable hands-on experience.

The National Complete Streets Coalition brings together transportation practitioners and groups representing users of the transportation system, as well as groups with concerns ranging from the environment to public health. All are working toward the adoption and implementation of Complete Streets policies at the federal, state, and local level, and many Coalition partners manage Complete Streets projects in coordination with the small Coalition staff. The Strategic Partnership Manager is a full-time position based in the Washington, DC office of Smart Growth America, the Coalition’s host organization.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Reach out to potential new Coalition partners and encourage their active involvement in the coalition;
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and manage joint projects with new and existing partners;
  • Engage coalition partners in advocacy and media efforts, including organizing advocacy days, sign on letters, letters to the editor, and district meetings;
  • Manage existing and develop new relationships with Congressional offices;
  • Create supporting materials for legislative proposals, including sign on letters, talking points, and fact sheets;
  • Represent the National Complete Streets Coalition at conferences, in other coalitions, and on Capitol Hill; and
  • Manage a collaborative process to create and implement a tool, or a series of tools, to measure implementation progress of existing Complete Streets policies. This may include writing white papers, organizing meetings with Coalition partners and other experts, and synthesizing input into proposed measurement tools.

Qualifications:
This position requires a self-motivated, detail-oriented person with strong organizational and people skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. He or she should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate an ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.

The candidate should have excellent writing, oral communication, and research skills. The position requires knowledge in transportation planning and policy.

Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s Degree and an educational background or work experience in transportation policy, public administration, urban planning, environmental policy, or a related field. Hill or federal advocacy experience is highly desired and will make up about one-quarter of this position’s workload. A demonstrated ability to create and manage coalitions and/or coalition projects is required. We are seeking someone with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience (or 2 years with a Masters Degree).

Salary and Benefits:
Salary will be commensurate with experience. SGA provides excellent benefits, competitive with non-profit organizations in the Washington, DC region.
